National Dementia Care Strategy
Care England is advocating for a comprehensive and unified national dementia care strategy, aligning with recent recommendations from the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This initiative follows the CQC’s report highlighting significant challenges faced by individuals with dementia, including difficulties in accessing timely diagnoses, inconsistent care quality, and a lack of coordinated support services .
Martin Green, Chief Executive of Care England, emphasized the necessity of a clearly defined vision for effective dementia care.He stressed that such a strategy should be co-produced with individuals living with dementia and their caregivers to ensure it addresses real-world needs.Green also pointed out the importance of integrating the strategy across health and social care systems to provide seamless support throughout the dementia journey.
The CQC’s findings reveal that more than half of individuals with dementia are either undiagnosed or lack a formal care plan, underscoring the urgency for systemic reform . Care England’s call for action aims to address these gaps by promoting a coordinated approach that ensures consistent, high-quality care for those affected by dementia.
